Hi James,
Thanks for the snappy reply! We're currently prototyping the design-o-matic whereby we mince up a couple of designers, hardwire them to silicon chips and force feed 20000 volts through the system. Needless to say, we've gone through 63 placement students already this year. Design job available, anyone?

Hi Clifford -

I laughed and then I cried. Reading between the lines, I'm guessing that there was a little tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek in your article; in which case allow me to exhale, and dab the tears away. Don't get me wrong, nothing rattles my case like people pontificating and blowing smoke up clients' arses about branding. Yes, foundations of branding. No, to buzz words, catch-phrases and elaborate, wanky 'strategic enlightment' sessions - to justify enflated agency invoices.

But, having said that, DIY logos and wordmarks? Give me a bloody break! Take part 'A' and fit with Part 'B', choose colour 'F' and font 'J' - and mix heartily for 20 minutes - until golden-brown (or shit-brown?), and then bake - along with your head on high for 45 minutes.

I'm still on the look-out for the Do-It-Yourself Triple-Bypass-Surgery site (all in for $99.99), and the Easy-To-Use 'Re-Wire Your House Yourself In Less Than 2 Hours' site. As my old man used to love to let me: you get what you pay for in life. Thanks Pop - wise words.

Thanks for the giggles,

James D.

I agree that there is an argument for purchasing DIY logos on the cheap, but is there ever a true personality to it.... and where's the rest of the brand!
