So, April fools again – in the last few years the big brands have really caught on to how grab your attention with their April fools gags. Much more entertaining than your Dad sticking a tail to you to walk to school in or putting Tabasco on your toothbrush! Oh how we laughed!

This year was better than ever with a long list of sustainable trees, drone mail and the end of YouTube – here’s a list of our faves.

Brand evolution for the Royal Academy of Engineering


Firedog has recently completed a full brand refresh project for The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAeng), Britain’s national academy for engineering and technology.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary as a progressive body, the Academy was looking to evolve their visual brand identity. The main aim was to reflect on the academy’s heritage and achievements, as well as embrace its future plans and ambitions through the new identity.

Communication Breakdown? What do the public really want?


The last two weeks saw the release of Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’ and Mark Zuckerberg’s selling of shares on Facebook. The link between the two may seem tenuous – or even non-existent – but I think there is one.

Both Burton and Zuckerberg have desperately tried to accommodate what they think the public wants, but might be getting onto the wrong track.

Firedog rank 79th in The Drum Design 100


For the first time in our near 10 year history, Firedog have been included in The Drum Design 100.

Our new entry as 79th on the list highlights our growth as an agency and makes us very proud indeed.

The Design 100 list is a nationwide list of the top 100 design consultancies in the UK, ranked by fee income from design activities for the 2011 calendar. This is essentially a guide to the UK design industry for 2012 and gives some great insight. The vast majority of design consultancies in The Drum Design 100 now identify digital as one of their specialisms – which shows just how important digital has now become for any company. We’ll be working hard throughout 2012 to make sure we can our way up this list for 2013.
